Insightful Information on Formula One Motor Racing Tracks

An established race course includes an extended piece of straight tarmac on which the starting grid is situated. The pit lane, where the Formula One drivers drive in for refilling and new tyres during the race, & where the Formula One teams operate on the vehicles ahead of the Formula One grand prix motor race, is customarily positioned next to the starting rows. The blueprint of the other parts of the race track differs immensely, even if in many occasions the race circuit is laid in a clockwise way. Those couple of tracks that do run anti-clockwise (and as a result have on the whole left-handed corners) may cause F1 drivers neck problems owing to the massive sideways forces produced by Formula 1 engines pulling their body in the opposite direction to normal.

A lot of the race tracks currently in use are specifically created for racing events. The present street race courses are the Circuit de Monaco & Melbourne, Australia even though street races in other countries come & go (For Example, Las Vegas and Detroit) and applications for such grand prixs are repeatedly discussed ? most recently London and Beirut. Quite a few other race courses are also entirely or partly laid out on normal roads, for example Spa-Francorchamps. The beauty & reputation of the Monaco grand prix are the principal motivation why the race circuit is still in use at the moment, since it is thought not to pass the severe safety conditions imposed on other circuits. Three-time World champion Nelson Piquet famously portrayed driving in Monte Carlo as “like riding a bicycle in your living room”. Cutting: Throughout the Years

The sport of cutting has evolved since its birth in 19th century. With the creation of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) in 1946, cutting further entrenched itself in the world of equine sports worldwide. The sport has extended it popularity to other countries. In Canada and Australia, cutting has received a large following. The National Cutting Horse Association does not only provide the rules of the sport or just keep track of the records; the NCHA provides society tons of opportunities and bolsters the equine industry. Through sponsorships, the NCHA has produced six major events: (1) the World Championship Futurity, (2) the World Finals, (3) the Western National Championships, (4) the Eastern National Championships, (4) the Super Stakes, (5) the Super Stakes Classic, and (6) the Summer Cutting Spectacular. All events are estimated to bring over $70 million to host cities, further illustrating the economic value of the sport. The NCHA has various categories in each event, and has produced a huge number of champions and Hall of Fame inductees since 1946. The list includes 2-time (2006-2007) Open category champion Dual Rey Me, 2008 Open Category Champion Meradas Sue Blue, Hall of Famers Vegas Boy and Poco Lena. Several champion riders include Greg Smith and Scott Amos.

FA Cup Third Round Betting Review

There were not many surprises in the FA Cup third round, but the shock results in the minority were certainly spectacular ones.

Manchester United remain 9/2 second favourites despite whimpering to a goalless draw against non league Burton Albion. This was the second time in as many seasons the Reds have been held by Conference opposition, although it will mean a lucrative payday for Nigel Clough’s side when the two sides replay at Old Trafford.

Middlesbrough were also held to a draw by Conference North side Nuneaton Borough. Former Leicester City apprentice Gez Murphy scored a 90 minute penalty to level matters after Gaizka Mendieta gave Boro the lead after 15 minutes.

Fulham became the first Premiership side to be dumped out of the Cup, going down 2-1 at home to League Two side Leyton Orient on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday proved to be a bad day for Premiership sides with Tottenham Hotspur the next victims. The perennial FA Cup underachievers surrendered a two goal lead at Leicester’s Walkers Stadium with the Foxes winning an entertaining match 3-2. Despite the stunning victory, Championship outfit Leicester remain 200/1 underdogs to win the Cup.

Elsewhere it was business as usual for the Premiership sides. Chelsea, favourites at 11/4 needed an 81 minute winner to see off plucky Huddersfield while 11/2 third favourites Arsenal had a late scare against battling Cardiff but clung on for a 2-1 victory.

Liverpool (13/2) were involved in a remarkable match with Luton Town, in which they found themselves 3-1 down after the break, although three goals in 12 minutes restored the Reds lead to 4-3, with Xabi Alonso scoring from inside his own half at the death for Liverpool’s fifth, a goal which earned one lucky punter over £25,000 after placing a bet on him achieving such a feat.

Blackburn despatched QPR by a convincing 3-0 as did Bolton away at Watford, while struggling Sunderland managed the same against non league Northwich Victoria.

A host of ties could only muster a single goal in the Premiership sides favour, with 25/1 Newcastle edging past Mansfield, Gareth Barry’s goal being enough for Aston Villa (33/1) to see off Hull and 100/1 outsiders Portsmouth to win at Ipswich.

The third round isn’t over for Everton who drew 1-1 at Millwall, a scoreline repeated by West Brom against Reading and Wigan Athletic against Leeds. Birmingham City could only muster a goalless draw at League Two side Torquay United.

How to win the Inner Game of Tennis

Do you know the ways of winning the inner game with your mind?
Timothy Gallwey developed this concept in his bestselling book
Inner Game of Tennis. You’re about to find out more ways of
winning the inner game of tennis and these ways are applicable
to all other areas of life.

Inner game is actually rarely a game. How is that? Well, usually
we just listen to every thought that comes up in our
consciousness and listen to it. Like having a radio stuck to
your ear and repeating everything that you hear.

Playing a game means that you have some influence on your
opponent. But if we just listen to every thought that comes up
in our mind, then that is not a game, it’s obedience.

The first step is to become detached from your mind. It’s just
your mind, it’s not you! It’s simply releasing thoughts from the
realm of your unconsciousness and there is no end to them.

So how can you actually play the game with your mind?

Here are 5 ways you can win the inner game of your mind:

1. Fighting the mind The most typical example of fighting
the mind is when we are afraid. Courage is actually a win
against fear - and that’s when we fight our mind. Our mind is
telling us something and we don’t do it. There is some other
internal or external motivation that moves us through the fear.

Fighting the fear can result in a very surprising outcome if we
persist. When we are in a fearful situation and we overcome
fear, we gain some confidence. When we are confronted with that
or a similar event later, we overcome that fear more easily. We
feel that the fear is smaller. Eventually we win the internal
battle and the fear does not appear anymore. We don’t need to
spend our nervous energy to overcome the fear, so then we can be
much more effective in other mental activities at that moment.

2. Tricking the mind This concept is the main idea in the
Inner Game of Tennis book. We trick the mind by focusing it on
something relevant and something interesting - seeing how the
ball is spinning or watching the flight path of the ball and
things like that.

We are playing a game with our mind and even though we know that
we’ll trick the mind and the mind knows it, it still falls for
the trick. Not always but we get better with practice.

3. Listening to your mind When we develop good awareness
of our thinking, we choose what we’ll believe. We choose whether
some thoughts are important or not. Again, this is not some
Indian mystical ability; we do this all the time. No? Have you
ever thought about hitting someone and you didn’t? Or some guy
on the street drove in front of you and you wanted to crash in
his car? And you didn’t? You chose not to follow the thoughts!
You saw how useless and damaging would that be in the long term.

That’s exactly what we need to do in tennis. Hitting a winner
from 3 meters behind the baseline on the run is not a thought to
follow. If just after a bad line call a thought like this
appears: Everything is against me; I cannot possibly win this,
then this is not a good thought to follow!

4. Ignoring the mind - the door to the zone This is an
even higher ability to have than just listening and selecting
the thoughts. When you ignore the mind it feels as if you’re
watching the TV and the radio is on. You are so focused on the
TV show, that you don’t hear the radio. But it’s playing all
right. And the same can be done with our minds. We can get so
focused on the tennis game that we don’t even hear and realize
what the mind is talking about.

5. Shutting the mind off - entering the zone This is the
ultimate ability and it enables the player to enter the zone.
Shutting the mind off happens when you have been ignoring the
mind for a long time. Some thoughts come but you simply don’t
care and you just keep playing. Every time a thought appears you
just let it pass.

What happens after a while (and it is my own experience) is that
the mind seems to get offended. Since we don’t notice the mind’s
chatting, it is so upset that it refuses to talk to us anymore.
Suddenly there is silence in the mind.

And you can just play. There is no past or future. They exist
only in the mind. What is is now.

So this is a progression in taming the mind. Sometimes it gets a
little rough, but eventually the mind seems to give up
especially when we don’t care. And there lies the freedom from
ideas, concepts and beliefs. Only after the match you release
this zone state and return to your normal beta state of brain
wavelength. Back with your mind friend.

T.O. - Totally Obnoxious

Terrell Owens latest temper tantrum is totally obnoxious. Owens verbally attacked Donovan McNabb and showed the NFL and its fans that he’s not mentally fit to play for any team in the NFL.
Don’t get me wrong. I think T.O. (Terrell Owens/Terribly Obnoxious) is an extremely talented receiver but doesn’t have the emotional capacity to be a team player.

Terribly Obnoxious only cares about himself. Since joining the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL, Owens has been a problem for the teams he’s played on.
Terribly Obnoxious was nothing but trouble for the 49ers who eventually traded him away.

When the 49ers initially tried to trade Owens to the Baltimore Ravens, Terribly Obnoxious threw a temper tantrum and refused to abide by the trade. Owens acted like a little baby and acted obnoxious like only Owens knows how to do.

Eventually Owens was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, Once again Terribly Obnoxious has shown what type of INDIVIDUAL he is (he is an individual player and not a team player).
Owens is only concerned about himself. He doesn’t care about the rest of his team or how the team performs. He only cares about his personal statistics.

I believe that a team can’t win the big game with T.O. He’s too much of a disruptive influence.

I doubt that T.O. will play for the Eagles again. I sure hope not. He probably shouldn’t even be given another chance to play for any other NFL team, although I’m sure some team will take a chance on him..

I could see him playing for one of the following teams:

Minnesota Vikings - After trading Randy Moss to the Oakland Raiders because of character issues, some Vikings players took part in Cruisegate (an alleged sex party on board a boat).
Owens should be a great fit for the Vikings who have sadly become accustomed to selfish players who lack class.

Miami Dolphins - A team that seems to be preoccupied with Ricky “The Hemp” Williams. Even after Williams walked off the team, refused to return to the Dolphins and violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the Dolphins were still adamant that Williams would play for them.
Sadly, T.O. fits the mold of selfish players who would fit right in with the team.

Oakland Raiders - Randy Moss’s new team and a haven for degenerate and selfish players. The Raiders seem to be the best fit for Owens. With Oakland, Owens will be able to flourish as a selfish “me” type of player who cares little about the tea concept.

I think it would be a mistake for any NFL team to take a chance on Owens but I’m sure some NFL team will.

Basketball Returns on Superbowl Sunday

Jazz @ Kings:

It was only a few days ago that these two met and the Kings went 0-20 in the 4th. Now Sacramento will try to match the Jazz’s defense, however they’ll have to do it without Ron Artest. Ron Artest injured himself against the Utah Jazz in their last meeting. This is a Revenge game at home for the Sacramento Kings and we expect them to ball out impressively. If they get to 90, they’ll probably win. Chances are they will go above 100. But they have to hit 4th quarter shots to do it. There should be no problem for this team at home.
Predicted Score: Sacramento wins agains the spread comfortbaly.

Knicks @ Rockets:

By the way these two games are matinee games so they won’t compete with the Superbowl. New York should be right for the picking and Houston should dominate. However with their pitiful attendance and inexcusable home record the Rockets will struggle. We are going to go out on a limb and predict the Rockets to lose the game straight up and against the spread. The tone for this game will be defense but Vegas will lull you into taking the Under in this game. Don’t get fooled.

Predicted Score: New York wins 95-91

Steve Merril’s NBA Fullcourt Report (Jan 19)

As we near the midpoint of the NBA regular season, injuries are
playing a major role for most teams. This is the case tonight as
both TNT national TV games have key players missing.

The Knicks will likely be without point guard Stephon Marbury
for the second straight night, while the Kings could possibly be
without three of their top four scorers. While injuries are
important, their effect on the pointspread is often overrated as
both the Knicks and Kings covered the spread in their past
games, despite playing short-handed.

Below is a look at both national TV games this evening.

DETROIT at NEW YORK - 8:05 pm ET (TNT)

The Pistons were one win away from winning back-to-back NBA
championships last season and they appear to be the team to beat
this year. Detroit improved to 31-5 SU with an easy 117-89 win
at Atlanta last night. The Pistons were able to rest their
starters as they entered the fourth quarter with a 22-point
lead.

Detroit already beat New York at home, 106-98, as an 11 -point
favorite on December 2nd. The game was tied 59-59 at halftime
and then the Pistons dominated the third quarter, 24-8, to take
a 16-point lead heading into the final period. Overall, the
Pistons outshot the Knicks 54-45 percent from the field.

The Pistons leading scorer that night was Richard Hamilton who
poured in 40 points, while the Knicks were led by Jamal Crawford
(22 points) and Channing Frye (21 points). Stephon Marbury
scored only 11 points, but he did lead the team with 11 assists.

Marbury missed his first game in five years when a shoulder
injury kept him out of last night’s game at Chicago. The Knicks
lost 106-104 in overtime and now must travel home without rest.
Marbury is expected to be out again tonight and leads the Knicks
in scoring (18.9 ppg), assists (7.0 apg), and steals (1.3 spg).

L.A. LAKERS at SACRAMENTO - 10:35 pm ET (TNT)

The Lakers are playing excellent basketball and have gone 6-1 SU
(5-2 ATS) the past seven games since Kobe Bryant returned from a
two-game suspension. Los Angeles enters tonight’s game off
back-to-back SU dog wins after a 110-104 upset at Golden State
and then a 100-92 home win versus Miami on Monday. The Lakers
won both games outright as 3-point underdogs.

The Sacramento Kings played without three of their top four
scorers on Tuesday, but still managed to upset the Phoenix Suns,
119-90, as an 8-point home underdog. Sacramento outshot the Suns
51-38 percent overall and led by as many as 33 points in the
game.

It was the second straight home win for the Kings who improved
to 11-11 SU at Arco Arena this season. Leading scorer Mike Bibby
was questionable heading into the game, but played 34 minutes
and scored 19 points with five assists. The Kings were without
their other three top scorers as Peja Stojakovic (16.6 ppg),
Shareef Abdur-Rahim (16.5 ppg), and Bonzi Wells (15.1 ppg) were
all out with injuries. Stojakovic is questionable tonight, while
both Abdur-Rahim and Wells are doubtful.

PGA Tour Preview — Deutsche Bank Classic

Last Week:

Brad Faxon carded a 9-under par 61 in the final round to force and win a playoff with Tjaart Van Der Walt at the 2005 edition of the Buick Championship. Many times in this column, “1-iron” has paid respectful homage to Faxon for his loyalty to the history, tradition and rules of the game of golf. Faxon is a great ambassador for the game, and is someone who is not afraid to speak his mind about controversial issues. This column wants to congratulate Brad Faxon on a job well done in Hartford.

This column would also like to point out the stellar play of Tjaart Van Der Walt. Lost in the thunder of Faxon’s 61 was TJVDW’s 64 to put him into contention as well. It’s been a rough 2005 for TJVDW, but the $464,400 he won in Hartford virtually assures him a PGA Tour card for 2006.

A minor thumbs down to Wes Short Jr., who was disqualified for signing for a 3 at No. 8 (he had a 4) and a 4 at No. 5 (he had a 3). How in the world does this happen…..twice…..on the PGA Tour……in 2005? “1-iron” has been telling folks to stay away from Shorty for quite some time, and these scorecard shenanigans will do nothing to change his mindset.

Also a quick word to the victims of Katrina. “1-iron” would like you to know that his thoughts are with you during this difficult time. When something like this happens, trivial items like the PGA Tour need to take their place in the back of the priority line. It will be no easy task re-building the gulf cost of the United States, but “1-iron” believes it can be done. Again, “1-iron’s” thoughts are with you - please be well.

This Week:

Tiger Woods laces up the spikes in Boston for the Deutsche Bank Classic. Vijay Singh is the defending champion, after holding off Woods and Adam Scott by three shots last year, however Singh won’t compete due to back spasms. The TPC of Boston is back to yield more low scores, and Singh’s 16 under from last year probably won’t get the job done this year. The course is playing at just over 7,400 yards, however there are plenty of birdie opportunities on both sides. “1-iron” looks for a winning score of 20 under to come out on top.

Whenever you have Woods in the field, it’s a doozie - but throw in Couples, Johnson, O’hair, Immelman, Love III and Chopra - then it’s an absolute party. Because of the time of year (think pigskin and gridiron), “1-iron” believes that the PGA Tour needs to have its stars in the field every week to keep up. If the Tour can’t produce Woods, Singh, Mickelson, etc every week during this time of year, then it’s pointless for the networks to try and draw ratings against the likes of College Football and the NFL. Face it, people aren’t going to watch Frank Lickliter II in a playoff against John Rollins if Coach Frank Solich and the Ohio Bobcats are on ESPN2. It just isn’t going to happen. In all seriousness, it’s great that we have a good field this week - but we need it every week.

18 Shots — Deutsche Bank Classic Odds and Picks

6 Who Will:

1. Tiger Woods (3/2): Five Wins, 11 Top 10’s, 15 Top 25’s, two Majors (Masters and British), leads the money list……Check Please. T2 last year at this event.

2. Tim Petrovic (75/1): Winner at Zurich. Hails from the Boston Area. T6 at the International and played three solid rounds at the Buick last week. Keep an eye out for the Homer.

3. Trevor Immelman (60/1): T5 at the Masters with Woods in the field. T15 at the British with Woods in the field. T17 at PGA Championship with Woods in the field. T19 at NEC with Woods….you know the drill. If Woods’ is in the field, keep an eye on Trevor. Little guy with a big game.

4. Sean O’Hair (40/1): Comin’ to Boston HOT! What a splash this young man has made on the game this year. The young 23-year-old who was released from his father’s “contract” has made 19 of 23 cuts and won the Greater Milwaukee Open. Up next could be the beginning of a big rivalry with Tiger Woods.

5. Daniel Chopra (Field 3/1): “1-iron” is rollin’ the dice with Daniel “Lamb” Chopra again this week. Now pgatour.com is starting to steal “1-iron’s” work as it relates to Chopra. Is nothing sacred? fourth place here last year and went T12 & T15 at Buick Open and the International before missing two cuts in a row at Reno and the Buick Championships.

6. Dean Wilson (Field 3/1): Huh? You remember when he teed it up with Annika? Me too, but the “1-iron’ has kept an eye on his game as well. Two Top 10’s in the last four weeks, playing very well.

6 Who Can:

7. Davis Love III (12/1): Playing awesome the last two weeks he’s been in the field. T7 at the PGA Championship and T13 at the NEC. Skipped the Deutsche last year, so he’ll be coming in a little inexperienced.

8. Fred Couples (50/1): Three Top 10’s and seven Top 25’s this year. Guy looks like a million bucks while doing it too. T28 at Firestone is a good sign and announced he’s out of the World Match Play in favor of the 84 lumber in a couple weeks. Could be a sentimental money pick this week.

9. Ryan Palmer (75/1): “Palm Tree” rolls into Boston with a 2nd, a 3rd, and five Top 25’s this year. He’s also fresh off a 3rd place finish at the NEC where he closed with 68-67-69. His game is ripe for the pickin this week and at 75/1 he might be worth a shot.

10. Hank Kuehne (100/1): The big dog is ready to eat at the TPC this week. Looked great while finishing 4th at the International but hasn’t played well all year. Should be ok for 2006, but could use one more great tournament to cement his status. T6 at the Deutsche last year, this course is Taylor-Made for him.

11. Brad Faxon (30/1): Fax can be the first player to win in Hartford and Boston in the same year. Mark my words, he can do it. He’s playing so well and has a renewed sense of confidence. No way I bet against him this week. Big props to the Fax Machine.

12. Zach Johnson (25/1): Has begun to salvage a mediocre year with his play as of late. Last four weeks have gone T2 at Buick Open, T17 at PGA Championship, T9 at NEC, and T42 at Buick Championship. He’s playing well and should carry it into Boston.

6 Who Won’t:

13. Charles Howell III (40/1): Why? Why is he still out there grinding away when his game needs serious fixing? The crazy thing is that he’s missed three of his last five cuts, but when he plays well (Solo 5th at the International, T15 at PGA), he plays well. He may turn it on, but “1-iron” doesn’t see it this week.

14. Mark Brooks (Field 3/1): Ugly year. Has only made eight of 18 cuts and has withdrawn twice. Finish of T10 at Byron Nelson has been the only bright spot. This won’t be a good week, especially when paired with Woods and Franco the first two days.

15. Harrison Frazar (Field 3/1): “Where have you gone, Harrison Fra-aa-zar?” He’s made 15 of 25 cuts but only has $325,000 to show for it. His spot in 2006 is in serious jeopardy. His scoring average ranks 133rd on Tour, and that’s a big problem. This probably won’t be the place to fix things.

16. David Hearn (Field 3/1): This young man from Canada qualified for the Tour through Q-school in 2005. It looks like he’ll have to do it again. 8/16 missed cuts and only $145,000 in official money. 155th in putting gives him a great deal to work on.

17. Jason Gore (100/1): The lovable big-man from Van Nuys makes his 2nd membership start on the PGA Tour this week after a T73 at the Buick Championships. He’s still getting settled into his new fame and he surely won’t be in this spot for long!

18. Wes Short Jr. (Field 3/1): Got DQ’d for two incorrect holes last week - how does he top it this week? In “1-iron’s” doghouse - big time!
