Graduation day is the highest accomplishment in the life of a student. It is a proof of academic acclaim. There is no difference in a kindergarten or high school graduation for a student. The difference is in the terms of degree and age. For many people doctoral graduation is something which does require serious planning or effort. They are right also because if you are buying doctoral cap & gown for your son then it means you are on the top of the world.
Many parents buy academic robe for their children but the pleasure of buying doctoral gown is immense and cannot be replaced by any other thing in the world. Many parents get the chance to buy kindergarten caps and gown and high school cap and gown but their only few lucky parents who get the opportunity to buy doctoral cap and gown for their own son. Reaching up to this level in academic arena was not an easy task for you and for your son. It was a proper planning from your side and hard work and effort from his side that this day became a reality.
Though you got average salary still you did not compromise on the education of your son. You got him admitted in the best kindergarten school where he began his academic career. Then came high school where he became a mature student and decided to get his doctoral degree. You also supported your son in this endeavor. His books were costly enough for yo0u to afford therefore you started overtime in your office. You took all necessary steps to see that your son’s studies are not hampered. You put him in good tuitions and there was a separate home tutor for him. Whatever he needed was provided by you. You celebrated his kindergarten and also high school graduation party with great enthusiasm. The certificates are still kept nicely on your book shelves. It is the first thin that you see in the morning.
Destiny has given you yet another chance to celebrate your son’s achievement. This time the intensity of happiness and excitement is pretty much higher. Your son will be attending his doctoral graduation ceremony and get his doctoral certificate in his hand. This is the highest acclaim any one can get in academic sphere and your son done this. On this special occasion you should do something unique to acknowledge his success. Let him be happy and proud. Gift him something different this time so that your son too remembers it lifetime.
• Your son is mature now. He knows the importance of relationship now. It is quite possible that he may like some girl but hesitates to talk about it in front of you. This is the proper time for you to take the initiative. Ask your son to introduce the girl to you. If you find her proper for your son then nothing like it.
• It is sure that you will be hosting a graduation party for your son. You can invite the girl to the party also so that other family members also meet her and then the topic could be taken at a different stage.

As you know, school house teachers prepare for their career path through many hours of course work, methodology classes, and student teaching before they begin teaching school. So how in the world could a parent without such training and preparations expect to be able to successfully home school their children?
As someone who has accomplished both, I can tell you that home schooling is quite a different job than classroom teaching. For instance, a classroom teacher is tasked with the rather prodigious challenge of conveying specific skills to a large group of kids with many different learning abilities and learning styles and certainly they come from different backgrounds. I can tell you, as a teacher, the temperament toward learning in which the child is exposed to at home is a huge influencing factor when it comes to the child’s performance at school. Whether a child comes from a home environment that embraces and nurtures learning or not makes teaching a large group of students an even more challenging task. Then there are those discipline issues that inevitably come. When this occurs, the schoolteacher is bound to follow rules, regulations, and policies. And may or may not have the support of the parents in correcting the behavior.
Disciplinary action is a whole different arena when you are a homeschooling parent. This is a natural duty for you as a parent and as such you can incorporate the rules and policies that not only work best for your homeschool but for your family as well.
As a homeschooling parent, you are in control of the home environment of student(s)! And homeschoolers certainly don’t have to teach, motivate, and reach out to an entire room full of children at one time. We only have to motivate and manage one (or several) children, and even then (if you’re creative with your scheduling and planning) it doesn’t have to be all at the same time. As parents, homeschoolers are driven by the highest of motivators… the love for their children and the desire for them to be successful.
When it comes to the curriculum, schoolteachers are largely bound by a prescribed program and schedule. In the traditional classroom, because of scheduling and time constraints (along with everything else) a teacher must instruct as efficiently as possible. Too much time on one unit will probably mean cuts being made in others. One of the biggest challenges schoolteachers face with the larger class sizes is finding teaching pace that will not out run the slower student yet deliver to the higher learners subject matter that challenges them as well. Unfortunately, the answer is usually a compromise that neither works for the slower or the faster students.
As a homeschooling parent you don’t have to work within the time constraints or the class sizes. And you certainly won’t get called into the office because you spent too much time on one subject either because your child really took to it and you wanted to dig deeper, or your child struggled to understand some of the concepts and you wanted to review, test and teach some more before you moved on. As a whole the homeschooling parent can work with and help their children fully learn something without having to worry about any myriad of issues that schoolteachers face.
It’s been documented that one on one instruction facilitates learning at a much greater pace than can be done in a one to many environment. The homeschooling parent has the flexibility to adjust the schedule as learning dictates. You’ll find that because this teaching model is so much more efficient than classroom learning, that you’ll be able to dig deeper and stay longer within subjects and still have plenty of time on your homeschool yearly calendar.
Preparation is always a good thing and with today’s technologies it’s much easier. Get out there and read books, find some good online homeschooling forums that you like and jump in. You’ll soon get a feel for how those ahead of you on the path have approached the very same questions that you have. Be prepared for some sanding and buffing of your schedule and your plans until you find what works best for you, your child(ren) and your family.
Do you have educational training and pedigrees that schoolteachers have? Probably not; but as you now know, in the case of homeschooling you don’t need many of them.
So, homeschooling… can you really do this? I think you’ll find that with the availability of so many resources today, combined with your enthusiasm for your child’s success and the love of being their parent that… yes you can do this.

This article is the 1st of 3 in a series for computer based
Homeschooling African American children during Black
History Month. It’s aim is to suggest a standards goal
for teaching our children at home in order to provide them
with an exceptional education to insure their future.
Homeschooling using a computer to bring the enormous
amount of information into our children’s classroom during
Black History Month can be a critical tool to
reaching a parents goal for a quality education.
Now while teaching your child to be like Fredrick Douglass
can seem like an impossible task, let’s look at a quote from
Fredrick Douglass himself to see what his thoughts would be…
Frederick Douglass once told a group of African American
students from a school in Talbot County, Maryland,
“What was possible for me is possible for you. Do not think because you are colored you cannot accomplish anything. Strive earnestly to add to your knowledge. So long as you remain in ignorance, so long will you fail to command the respect of your fellow men.”
So preparing your children to join the list of famous African Americans should not seem all that much of a challenge if we support our children to listen to Fredrick Douglass - “Strive earnestly to add to your knowledge.” That’s not too hard of a standard to set for computer based homeschooled children or their parents. There are a few steps that can be taken to effectively support homeschooled children in reaching the goal of becoming an
orator, motivational speaker, and one day join the list of
famous African Americans.
First up is the simplest one - read to them. Even if it’s just 30 minutes a day, it’s an important building block in helping children to add to their knowledge. All the experts, pundits, educational consultants etc., etc., were right reading is always fundamental. It fundamental in the his-story of Fredrick Douglass, it’s fundamental in the her-story of Buchi Emecheta a Nigerian author, fundamental enough for her to strive to be a librarian. Reading to children inspires them to read and generates a bond that will last always. It is just as important to suggest to your children what to read, and guide them into books written by and about the great African American heritage.
If you would like for your child to be an orator like Fredrick Douglass, the Sage of Anacostia, a most eloquent and skilled public speaker then give them an audience at an early age. I been in homeschools in Chicago, Miami, Baltimore, Houston, and other cities and sometimes have seen parents take a microphone away from the 4 year old to give it to a child who is uncomfortable speaking. And I tell them give it back to the one who wants to be heard! If you have a child that seems to like the sound of their voice, then you may have a public speaker on your hands and it is your duty to give them the opportunity to become eloquent and
skilled. At the same time if your daughter just has the courage
to speak and not the vocabulary then she can look upward toward
Sojourner Truth who delivered her ‘Aint I A Woman’ speech to the
Woman’s Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. Even if your child
does not become a speaker, allowing him/her to sometimes enjoy
the sound of their voice encourages confidence and self-worth -
2 important characteristics for anyone to be a part of history
if not a famous African American in history.
Finally everyone must take into account the impact that the crucible of slavery had on Fredrick Douglass’ passion as the lion of black orators. Fredrick Douglass’ achievements may have been in another field to taken another form simply because of who he was in character - however Fredrick Douglass and slavery had an unmistakable tie in making his-story. Upon this there is no doubt and I would call for parents to give their children a similar passion with the impact from the crucible of love. Unflinching, unfailing, unmistakable love can give any character a passion for
principles that will cause them to be like a voice crying in the
wilderness…maybe even into African American history.
Computer based homeschooling can give your homeschooled child an
additional window into the world of African American history,
one filled with images, sounds and words. The time it would take
to add this resource to your children’s education would be even
more effective than not giving them any added tool to provide
them with the support they will most certainly need in the
world’s crucible of time.
Be sure to get the final 2 parts of this series on African American history and it’s part in computer based homeschooling your children.
